You probably already checked it..
But what about the USB controller drivers. W2k, in my experience, doesn't always recognize the USB controller. What service pack are you running? Windows Update might even fix this issue by providing a new generic USB driver.
Windows 2000 and usb keyboard
Yes the usb controllers are installed and have the latest windows updates including service pack 4. I am thinking that tne drivers for usb keyboard has to be installed first while having the ps2 keyboard hooked up.
check the device manager
usb keyboard was not running, but mouse is running. check my computer(right click--> option) --> hardware --> device manager. if you found an exclamation mark, device diver install for usb keyboard.
if keyboard including usb hub it definitely install device driver

This driver is for the Prolific USB to Serial Converter. I have tested this driver with Windows2000, WindowsXP and Windows2003 and had no issues. The disk claims to support 95/98/me as well, however I have not tested this as I would not even touch those operating systems anymore.
This driver definately works, and I had to hunt around for a while in my stuff to find it. I realized how hard it was to come by and noticed how many people were looking for it so here it is.
